Sanborns at Av Insurgentes 2500 in Monterrey is a truly unique multi-category destination that blends the charm of a classic Mexican restaurant with the convenience and variety of a department store. This iconic spot effortlessly combines dining, shopping, and everyday essentials, making it a favorite for locals and visitors alike.
The restaurant side of Sanborns serves up a rich array of traditional Mexican cuisine, delivering hearty and evocative flavors that celebrate the country’s culinary heritage. Standout dishes such as the Motuleño Style Eggs, Molletes with Coffee, and Chilaquiles Suizos offer a delightful symphony of textures and tastes. Imagine biting into a warm, toasty mollete with melted cheese paired with a freshly brewed Café Americano—the combination awakens the palate with its comforting and familiar richness. Customers frequently highlight the quality and traditional essence of the food. Eduardo Castro recommends the enmoladas with fideo soup for a genuinely authentic experience, praising the restaurant’s dedication to its classic flavors, even if the ambiance feels a bit dated. Mister Roboto evokes nostalgia with the molletes recalling cherished memories from past visits, while María Rodriguez reassures diners of the strict Covid safety measures ensuring a comfortable and safe dining environment. Although ambiance is described by some as old-fashioned, this old-world charm lends a cozy, familiar feel that complements the traditional menu.
Beyond the restaurant, Sanborns functions as an eclectic department store offering everything from pharmacy items and toys to a pen store and pastries. This diversity makes it a one-stop shop where practicality meets pleasure. Shoppers can browse a broad selection of products including electronics, books, clothing, and even cell phones, as highlighted by Lyd Sanchez’s praise for the extensive offerings. Meanwhile, Samuel Garza warns of narrow aisles but applauds the attentive, helpful staff that make navigating this packed yet treasure-filled space a worthwhile endeavor.
Sanborns’s true value lies in its ability to provide a multifaceted experience: Whether you’re stopping by for a comforting meal of Chile en Nogada and Pozole Rojo, grabbing a quick coffee combo, or exploring the diverse product aisles, you’ll find a place rooted in Mexican tradition with a modern, customer-focused heart. While there is room for updates in ambiance and bathroom cleanliness, the warmth of its cuisine, variety of products, and friendly service make Sanborns a steadfast and beloved destination in Monterrey.
The service was very good and fast, I ate enmoladas with fideo soup. I recommend this restaurant because this traditional and good place in mty, the only thing i didnt like was atmosphere of restaurant its old, I wish on the future this restaurant renews their facilites.
Nice clean place, good prices but small portions nowadays. The molletes brought back great memories of yesteryear.
It has a lot of things!! Great store! From cellphones, books to clothing and moisturizers!! And of course, the restaurant is typical Mexican cuisine and I love the "Molletes" Just one thing: I would love for them to keep the bathrooms cleaner.
They fulfill all the Covid practices, you feel comfortable with the arrangements made in the restaurant, and food is good also the cost is fair.
Plenty of things to see here in this store. From snacks to toys to electronics etc. Only downside is that the isles are too narrow and with the people that come in is crazy packed. I still give it 5 stars because the staff I dealt with, was very helpful.
